A DAY AT THE ALMOST HEAVEN SAUNA SHOWROOM, PART 2
THE HISTORY OF ALMOST HEAVEN SAUNAS. INTERVIEW WITH FOUNDER, RICK MOUW.
In this video, the second installment of our 2-part interview with the founder of Almost Heaven Saunas, Rick Mouw, we discuss the history of Almost Heaven Saunas and their humble beginnings as wooden hot tub creators in the 1970s to their growth into one of the most trusted sauna builders on the market today.
If you prefer the written word, keep reading for a summary of the video interview.
WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF ALMOST HEAVEN SAUNAS?
Almost Heaven started in 1977 as a wooden hot tub company. It was only natural that we would transition our craftsmanship into creating wooden barrel saunas. And once we started, we couldn’t stop — we continued to grow our offerings to include all the indoor and outdoor saunas Almost Heaven produces now.
And to speak to our name...some of you may recall the 1970’s John Denver hit, “Country Roads.” It starts with the line, “Almost Heaven / West Virginia.” And that really spoke to us at the time because our company was born in West Virginia. Plus, what’s closer to heaven than having your own personal sauna?
Recently we’ve merged with Harvia, one of the world’s best sauna heater manufacturers. We always used Harvia heaters as our sauna stoves. Now, we work together to sell saunas under the name Almost Heaven and Harvia. Harvia is a fantastic company and recently celebrated their 70th anniversary this past year.
DO THE ALMOST HEAVEN SAUNA NAMES HAVE ANY SIGNIFICANCE?
Yes, they do. True to our roots, our saunas are named after iconic West Virginia rivers, towns, and landmarks — Pinnacle, Watoga, Grayson, Charleston, Huntington, just to name a few. It’s been a fun thing to do, and everyone learns something along the way. West Virginia has plenty of landmarks which is good news because we hope to continue producing more sauna models.
